The Golden Retriever is a large breed used primarily as a gun-dog and a retriever for small game. It is known for its lustrous light brown (golden) coat, which is double layered and provides them ample warmth in cold weather. Golden Retrievers are highly intelligent and respond well to both basic and advanced training, which makes them suitable for a number of roles including seeing-eye dogs, hearing dogs, search and rescue, hunting, and an affectionate, extroverted family companion.

Behavioral traits:
While Golden Retrievers are generally even-tempered and well behaved, potential owners should do their research before settling on a breeder. Goldens are popular, and this has led to indiscriminate breeding practices which means puppies with unstable temperaments.

Lovebirds are delightful little parrots that have been kept as pets for over 100 years! There are 9 species of these colorful, stocky little birds. There is also a wide variety of colorful mutations that have been developed within these species in captive bred lovebirds.
In the wilds, lovebirds live in flocks and are very social. The size of the flock varies with each species. Within the flock individual lovebirds will often pair up and be mates for life, staying very close to each other and constantly grooming each other. They display very loving affection, hence they termed "lovebirds".
Lovebirds are lively flyers and climbers, and as pets they are enjoyed for these antics as much as they are enjoyed for their beauty and their affectionate displays to their mate. The most popular and readily available species are the Peach-faced Lovebird, the Fischer’s Lovebird, and the Masked Lovebird.

Cichlids are the fishes from the family of Cichlidae in the order Perciformes. Cichlids are members of a suborder known as Labroidei, along with the wrasses (Labridae), damselfishes (Pomacentridae), and surfperches (Embiotocidae). This family is both large and diverse. At least 1,650 species have been scientifically described, making it one of the largest vertebrate families. New species are discovered almost annually, and many species remain mistify. The actual number of species is therefore unknown, with estimates varying between 2,000 and 3,000. Cichlids are also popular freshwater fish kept in the home aquarium.

Rottweiler - A Natural Guard Dog!

Rottweiler - A Natural Guard Dog!

The Rottweiler is strong and true with a loving heart. Affectionately called Rotties or Rotts, the breed was used to drive cattle and pull carts for farmers and butchers. That heritage is reflected in the Rottie's broad chest and heavily muscled body. When he moves, he displays strength and stamina, but when you look into his eyes you see warm, dark-brown pools reflecting a mellow, intelligent, alert, and fearless expression. A well-bred Rottweiler is calm and confident. He's typically aloof toward strangers, but never timid or fearful. Rottweilers exhibit a "wait-and-see" attitude when confronted with new people and situations. When these characteristics come together as they should, the Rottweiler is a natural guard dog with a mellow disposition who is successful not only in police, military, and customs work, but also as a family friend and protector.

Behavioral traits:
Well-bred Rotties can be a joy to live with and are never aggressive toward strangers, no matter how wary they may be. Indiscriminate breeding of this popular dog, however, has caused many Rotties to be born with unstable blood lines.

Preventing Unhealthy Feather Plucking In Birds

Preventing Unhealthy Feather Plucking In Birds

Just as there's a great deal of enjoyment to be found in admiring your colorful, well-groomed bird, there can be just as much concern when you discover that she is pulling out her own feathers. While some feathers may come out naturally during normal preening, continually pulling feathers out will eventually damage the feather follicles and stop the growth of healthy, new feathers. Feather picking (also known as feather plucking) is a self-destructive behavior that is unique to pet birds. When a bird plucks her own feathers—sometimes severely—it can cause physical harm, such as self-mutilation or infection from open sores. This behavior must be addressed immediately, as it could signal a variety of serious problems.
