Persian cats are literally the glamour pusses of the feline world. As kittens, they are adorable balls of fluff that seem to almost get lost in all that long fur. As adult cats, they have a regal, slightly snobbish look. However, their personality is anything but uppity. Persian cats are loving and loyal companions that bond strongly with their owners.

Behavioral Traits:
Persians are creatures of habit. They thrive in a stable, secure living environment and are not particularly fond of sudden changes. With gentle and consistent reassurance, they can adapt to boisterous households. Most Persians are meticulous self-groomers. However, they still need their owner's help to maintain their glorious coats, which can be quite a challenge.

All in all, the Persian is a remarkably decorative and glamorous breed, and they appear to be quite happy to serve in those roles. They are content to languish about their indoor environment on the softest place in the house or draped over their owners’ shoulders, only to rise for an occasional meal, game of fetch or trip to the cat box.

Personality:
The Persian Cat is a delightfully dignified cat that is gentle, kind and extremely affectionate. These are kind, quiet animals. When they do vocalize, they have a melodious, pleasant, non-abrasive meow. Despite their mellow temperaments, Persian cats are not particularly shy. Indeed, some can be quite independent and rather saucy in disposition. They enjoy playtime and form very close bonds with their owners. They can thrive in almost any type of household environment, as long as they are given plenty of attention and sufficient personal space. They crave and need human companionship. They do not do well if they are left alone or unattended for long periods of time. They typically get along well with other household pets, including dogs and other cats. They also tend to be patient with children.

Persian Cat Appearance:
Even people who know nothing about cats will usually be able to identify a Persian cat. They are the most recognizable of all cat breeds. The Persian cat has a long flowing coat with luxurious full, soft woolly undercoat hairs with longer coarser guard hairs and a chunky body which is often referred to as 'cobby'. Their legs are thick and stocky. Persians have round eyes set in a sweet round flat face.

Size and weight: Almost all of them have same size with a slight difference. After generalizing all the data collected from all these different groups of Persian cats the weight for Male Persian cats lies in the range of 4-5 kg and for Females it is 3-4 kg. The height of male fully grown Persian cat should be around 11-15 inches (28-38 cm)and for Females 10-14 inches (25-36 cm).

Life expectancy:
Well-bred Persians are fairly healthy animals, with an average life expectancy of 15 years or more (which is about the same as that of most domestic cats).

Grooming a Persian:
Persian owners must be prepared to groom the glorious coat daily. This is a high maintenance breed which depends totally on its owner for its comfort and well-being. If grooming is neglected for any length of time the coat mats and will require expert attention. Persians moult heavily twice a year, and shed some hair all year round. Proper maintenance requires a daily run-through with a metal comb to eliminate the potential drawbacks of tangles and hairballs. The Persian cat's eyes also need attention. Persian cats have considerable problems with watering eyes which over time can cause dark discoloration caused by tear marks. To prevent this, a special eye lotion for cats can be applied.

Diet: DRY or WET? Both can be beneficial, especially when a specific purpose is indicated. We feed both and each has a specific purpose. We use a high quality canned wet food mixed 50-50 with a high quality raw meat for the main dish and dry food for them to take as they like.
WET FOOD: A high quality canned food for kittens will have a high fat content. As they grow older, the fat content should decrease while the protein and fiber content increase. Good quality raw meat can be purchased from most pet stores or even a zoo supplier. Professionally prepared raw meats will contain a mixture of muscles, organs, bones, and supplements to ensure proper nutritional balance.
DRY FOOD: We prefer a mix of three dry cat foods – one specifically for intestinal health, one high fiber to minimize hairballs, and one for flavor. Intestinal health foods are usually prescription diet foods obtainable from your vet.

Persian Cat As A Pet:
Persian cats are sweet and affectionate cats that should be kept indoors. They don’t mind a full house or active kids, and they will usually hide when they need some quiet time. They do need to be brushed daily and have their eyes cleaned as needed, so there is a commitment to grooming with this breed.
If you get one as a kitten, they may have issues with consistently going to the litter box. These gentle cats are pretty relaxed, but if you already have cats you can prepare for your new addition. If this is your first cat, don’t forget to clear the home of poisons. With a little preparation and commitment to keeping your Persian healthy and happy, they will reward you with affection and companionship.
